Sales Analytics Test Introduction

Below you see an image of a Search Engine Results Page (SERP), showing how the organic blue listings are counted and ranked in our industry. If you are like most people, you usually click on listings at the top of the first Search Engine Results Page shown below, and rarely look at the subsequent pages.

In fact BrightEdge research confirms that a high percentage of all organic clicks are on the first page of search results, especially on listings ranked 1 through 3. Because of this phenomenon, websites compete fiercely to get their organic listings on the first Search Engine Results Page as near the top as possible.

This graphic is another view of a Search Engine Results Page showing that Pay-per-Click (PPC) ads appear at the top and on the right side of a Google SERP, which was generated in this case for the keyword “what is seo.” Every time a viewer clicks on a PPC ad, the advertiser has to pay the search engine.

By contrast, the natural search results, also called organic search results, are free. Position in organic search results is determined by the search engine and depends on many factors, including how well the content conforms to today’s best practices in search engine optimization.

The BrightEdge platform compares our client’s content to today’s best practices, and gives recommendations on how to rank higher in organic search results. If a client implements the BrightEdge recommendations, the client’s content should rise in the rankings. As a consequence, the client’s website should receive more organic traffic and generate more conversions, which could include, for example, purchasing an item, requesting a demo or downloading a PDF.
